A Message from The General Manager
Dear Member,
What a year it has been for WBUR—“The Associated Press News Station of the Year.” Some of the highest listener ratings in the station’s history. A newly designed website. And several new local initiatives, including expanded news coverage, the recent “Boston at the Crossroads” news series, a documentary about the heroic work of Boston Medical Center, and the leadership coverage the station has already devoted to the Massachusetts Gubernatorial race.
We realize, however, that the NPR affiliation is the lifeblood of WBUR, coupled with the additional programming we receive from other national public radio sources and from the BBC. We are also proud of the four national programs that originate at WBUR: On Point with Tom Ashbrook, Here and Now with Robin Young, Only a Game with Bill Littlefield, and Car Talk with the irrepressible Magliozzi brothers.
None of this would be possible—the NPR affiliation, the WBUR national shows, the new local initiatives—without the generous support of listeners like you. WBUR has employed so many themes to express that partnership over the years. Perhaps it is best said that you and we really do this important work together.
As a reflection of that partnership, we have developed this seventh edition of the WBUR's “Airwaves” newsletter. It reflects that WBUR is in a good place, providing an ever-increasing and important service in the Boston media landscape.
Again, we have you to thank as we look to WBUR’s current work and to the many exciting projects we have planned for our listeners in the coming year.
Please continue to support the work of NPR and of WBUR in Boston by donating today.
With appreciation and all best wishes.
Paul La Camera
